What is the Treatment Schedule for Acoustic Wave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction?

Protocol for Acoustic Wave therapy typically involves six total short therapy sessions, or 12 for severe dysfunction, lasting approximately 30 minutes each. Usually, there are two treatments per week. For many men, there is an almost immediate improvement in the symptoms of erectile dysfunction. The results are very long lasting. Follow up appointments are made to monitor the man’s health and condition.

Do I Have to be Treated Continuously?

What are the possible side effects/ complications?

There are virtually no risks or side effects. In some cases, patients have reported minor discomfort which may continue for a few days. Tylenol is sufficient for this discomfort. While extremely rare, it has been reported that veno-occlusive vascular insufficiency may have been induced by Acoustic Wave therapy.

Is there any downtime?

No. Patients can carry on with their normal activities immediately following each treatment session, including sexual activity.

Who will benefit from ED Acoustic Wave Therapy?

Men with high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol and heart disease with vascular erectile difficulties can benefit. The treatment can be used for almost all patients, of any age, even those on anticoagulants. The sooner a patient seeks treatment for ED from us, the better the outcome will be. Acoustic Wave therapy works best for men who have mild to moderate ED, which usually means that oral medications such as Viagra work well or at least help somewhat. For these men, as many as 70% can stop taking oral medications. Please note that assessment by our trained practitioner is necessary. Contraindications to ED Acoustic Wave Therapy

While Acoustic Wave therapy is suitable for most men suffering from erectile dysfunction, there are some conditions or contraindications that means Acoustic Wave is not an option.
Acoustic Wave therapy for ED is unsuitable in the following circumstances:

• You have implanted cardiac stents, heart valves or a pacemaker.
• If you are hemophiliac.
• You have a malignant tumor present at the treatment site.
• You have an infection or skin abrasion at the treatment site
• If you have been advised not to undertake sexual intercourse, e.g. following a heart attack and/or cardiac surgery.
• If you suffer from nerve damage depriving your penis of sensation, Acoustic Wave therapy is unlikely to be beneficial until that issue is resolved.
• For men who have erection problems as a result of nervous system dysfunction (anxiety, depression, multiple sclerosis), Acoustic Wave therapy will not work.
• You are under 18.

Can low intesity extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy improve erectile function?

Scandinavian Journal of Urology- This placebo-controlled study over 5 weeks shows that 57% of the men who suffered from erectile dysfunction had an effect from LI-ESWT. After 24 weeks, seven (19%, active group) and nine (23%, active placebo group) men were still able to have intercourse without medication. This study shows a possible cure in some patients, but more research, longer follow-up in the placebo group and an international multicentre randomized study are needed.

Low intensity extracorporeal shockwave therapy for erectile dysfunction: a study in an Indian population.

Significant increases in the duration of erection and penile rigidity, and significant improvement in penile endothelial function were demonstrated. Ten men did not require any PDE5-I therapy after 6-mo follow-up. No pain was reported from the treatment and no adverse events were noted during follow-up.

Low-intensity Extracorporeal Shock Wave Treatment Improves Erectile Function: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

In a review 14 studies of men who received low-intensity extracorporeal shock wave treatment (LI-ESWT) for erectile dysfunction (ED), there was evidence that these men experienced improvements in their ED following LI- ESWT.
